KOCHI: Despite the indefinite closure of Maharaja's College and the hostel, student conflict persists. KSU claims a group broke into the hostel Thursday night, burning certificates of KSU unit president Niyas and unit in-charge Junais. KSU accuses SFI activists, but SFI denies involvement.
KSU filed a complaint with the college principal, hostel warden, and Ernakulam Central Police. However, police state they received no complaint. The police believe the fire was retaliation for the stabbing of SFI unit secretary PA Abdul Naser.
Police report 11 accused in Abdul Naser's stabbing case are on the run. Two suspects under observation at the hospital will be arrested upon discharge. Total accused: 14 KSU and fraternity workers, five students. Court remanded Ijilal, the eighth accused, a third-year environmental chemistry student.
A KSU worker, first-year philosophy student Amal Tomic, was injured in Wednesday night's clash, allegedly attacked by SFI activists, including the union's general secretary. Amal is the seventh accused in Abdul Naser's stabbing case.
