KANNUR: In yet another scare related to railway accidents, the Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express derailed on Saturday. The incident took place during shunting at Kannur railway station. The last two coaches were derailed. A major calamity was averted since no passengers were inside the train.

The accident occurred while the train was being brought to the platform, which was scheduled to depart at five in the morning. The last two coaches derailed around 4:40 am. The authorities were alerted and the work began instantly to get the train back on track.

After ensuring safety, the train departed one and a half hours late. Railway officials say that there have been no problems on the main line. Efforts are continuing to shift the two coaches stuck on the track. Railway has started an inquiry into the issue.
