GUWAHATI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stepped down from the bus into the group of BJP workers who protested against the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Dramatic scenes unfolded in Sonitpur, Assam. The incident happened on Sunday evening.

Those who carried saffron flags came to those who accompanied the Nyaya Yatra. Raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram and Jai Modi, they approached the bus in which Rahul Gandhi was traveling. With this, Rahul got down from the bus into the crowd and was taken back to the bus by security personnel and party workers. "BJP workers came in front of the bus with sticks. As soon as I got off the bus, they ran away. They think Congress is afraid of BJP and RSS. We are not afraid of the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister of Assam," Rahul said at the rally after the clash.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had earlier alleged that BJP workers attacked his vehicle in Sonitpur. "My vehicle was attacked a few minutes ago at Jumugurihat, Sunitpur by an unruly BJP crowd who also tore off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra stickers from the windshield. They threw water and shouted anti-BJNY slogans. But we kept our composure, waved to the hooligans and sped away. This is undoubtedly the Assam CM Himanta Biswa’s doing. We are not intimidated and will soldier on.", Jairam Ramesh posted on X with a video. Congress leaders said that their social media team was also attacked. Last day too there was an attack on the vehicles participating in the Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra. The attack took place just before the Yatra entered Lakhimpur district. Pictures and cutouts of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were also destroyed.
