THRISSUR: Kattuparamban from Manichitrathazhu, Keeleri Achu from Kankettu, Ramanan from Punjabi House, Shaji Pappan from Aadu...the popular and cool characters of the movies were made into fibre meme stars for the festival grounds. As it spread on social media, Suraj Venjaramoodu saw his iconic Dasamoolam Damu from Chattambinad and was wonderstruck!!!
He immediately congratulated the Guruvayoor Perakam Souparnnika Kalalayam team by calling them and booked them for a festival at a temple near Venjaramoodu on 1st March. Peacock figures and instrumentalists have been requested.
Suraj's advice is that if the dialogues of the stars are recorded and played along, it will be extra attractive. These characters become a part of the festival along with their musicians. The six festivals held over two weeks saw huge crowds to see these meme stars. They have been booked for more than 80 festivals and have no dates till next month.
Uniqueness won hearts
Replacing the Theyyam and Goddesses that have been a regular sight in the festival grounds for decades, Souparnika Kalalayam brought peacocks and other birds to the Pooram grounds and it was a success. So it was decided to bring in comedy characters this season. A special mould was made for this purpose. The figures will be attached to each person's shoulder and made to wear the costume. It quickly spread through social media. All five figures were prepared within two months. Each figure is nine feet tall and weighs 20 kilograms. Bhaskaran, Ranjith, Baiju, Rajeev and Chandran from Souparnika Kalalayam donned the figures. Abhilash and Gautham are assistants.
Comedy characters were made into figures as part of new experiments. Didn't expect to be so successful.
