KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Court has ordered the airlines and agencies that cancelled the tickets without providing alternative facilities to pay a compensation of Rs 64,442. The bench, headed by DB Binu and members Vaikom Ramachandran and TN Srividya, passed the order on a complaint filed by former district judge and former president of the Kollam Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission EM Muhammad Ibrahim and member Sandhyarani.

The plaintiffs claim that the ban was imposed by the Civil Aviation Directorate due to the age of the aircraft. Due to the deficiency in the service of the opposite parties, the tickets had to be bought by paying a higher amount. In the order, the court stated that the opposite parties are liable to pay compensation, ticket amount and court costs. 64,442 as compensation and court costs to be paid to the complainants within one month, the order said.
