ALAPPUZHA: Kumarapuram's dedicated librarian, P. Sukumaran (64), known for delivering books on foot for 44 years, faces eviction crisi in his life. Sukumaran and family lived in a rentend house. The landlord demands he vacate for renovations leaving Sukumaran, his diabetic wife Thulasi (55) and their son Ananthakrishnan (15), who has cerebral palsy, in dire need of a new home.
Sukumaran, a graduate and the brain behind the library's home delivery service, earns a modest Rs 4120 monthly. His son's pension of Rs 1600 comes every four months, adding to their financial struggles.
Initially ousted from his family for marrying a Scheduled Caste woman, Sukumaran's life took a turn towards rented homes. His son's health condition and wife's diabetes make their current situation more challenging.
The library's ingenious subscription model starting at Rs 5 and now serving 107 households earned Sukumaran recognition winning the Best Librarian Award from both the State Library Council Staff Association and District Library Council.
Sukumaran, determined to secure a bed for his ailing son, expresses a simple dream before his eyes close.
