KUMALI: In a decisive move, the Kumali Gram Panchayat has dismissed Siji, a temporary employee for neglecting her 72-year-old mother Annakutty who passed away without assistance.
During the recent panchayat committee meeting, President Rajani Biju and Vice President KM Siddique announced the dismissal, indicating a stern stance against the abandonment of elderly parents. The committee also revealed potential actions against Annakutty's son Saji, an employee of Kerala Bank in Kumali.
Kumali Gram Panchayat has reached out to the police to investigate the case further and the bank is expected to take subsequent actions based on the findings. The authorities are actively seeking a comprehensive report on the situation.
Last Friday, Annakutty, living alone in Attapallam Colony was taken to Kottayam Medical College by local police and residents. Sadly, the frail elderly woman passed away on Saturday morning. Faced with the children's apparent indifference, the collector and sub-collector along with local support and police cooperation, took charge of Annakutty's funeral at St. Thomas Ferona Church in Kumali.
