THIRUVANANHAPURAM: A notice was issued to chief minister's security personnel in the case of thrashing youth congress activists during Nava Kerala Sadas. The notice issued to gunman Anil Kumar and S Sandeep of the security forces have asked them to appear on Monday. The officials of Alappuzha South Station came directly to Thiruvananthapuram and handed over the notice.
Anil Kumar is the first accused in the case. A case has also been registered against the known officials of the security forces. According to the court order, the police was ready to take action after a month of filing the case. The accused have been charged with assault with a weapon, grievous bodily harm and hurling abuses. Even though these are bailable sections, if proved guilty in court, will be jailed for up to seven years.
The Alappuzha Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court intervened in the plea filed by youth congress state general secretary advocate Ajay Jewel and KSU district president A D Thomas. The petition sought to file a case under IPC 294B, 326,324 against the security personnel.
When the chief minister and the ministers were going to Nava Kerala Sadas in Ambalapuzha constituency by bus from Alappuzha on December 16, the two who were raising slogans at the General Hospital Junction were taken into custody by the policemen on duty and assaulted. Thomas suffered a head injury and Ajay Jewel fractured his hand.
Both filed a complaint with the South Police, but a case was not registered. Then, when a report was sought on the complaint filed with the District Police Chief, the South Police replied that resorting to lathicharge was unavoidable.
