KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that her party Trinamool Congress will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone. She also said that a pan-India alliance with the Congress will be considered only after results are declared,. This announcement has come as a blow to the hopes of the INDIA bloc.
"I have no relations with the Congress... we will fight alone (and) will decide on an all-India level after the election," she said.
Mamata clarified her position after Rahul Gandhi said at the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra yesterday that the seat sharing is being discussed with the Trinamool Congress. Mamata had said that she was ready for an alliance with the Congress and the CPM in Bengal, but both parties did not take a favourable stand.
It is also noteworthy that Mamata's stance came as Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is about to enter West Bengal. She also hit out at Rahul's yatra by saying she wasn't informed of the same. "They are coming to my state... but did not have courtesy to inform me..." she told the media.
