HYDERABAD: A shocking footage has emerged of a woman student participating in a protest being manhandled and dragged by her hair. The protest was staged in Rangareddy district of Telangana. A video of the said incident has gone viral on social media,
The incident occurred during a protest by the students of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) against the state government's decision to allot 100 acres of land to the university for the construction of a new high court complex. The ABVP had called for a protest during which two policewomen who followed a woman leader on a scooter grabbed her hair and dragged her to the ground. With this, people including the opposition came forward.
"Today a protest was held at PJTSAU in which ABVP members also participated. We had taken around 20 protestors under preventive custody. Some protestors were running towards the road during which an incident happened where a woman constable by mistake held a protestor by her hair, following which she fell. They both reached the police station where the woman cop stated that it was by mistake and the girl accepted that it was not personal. No complaint was filed by the girl," a police inspector said about the incident.
Opposition leader K Kavitha has demanded an "unconditional apology" from the Telangana Police and urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) "to take swift and strict action against those involved".
