HARIDWAR: A five-year-old boy died after his parents believed that a dip in the Ganga could cure him of cancer. The incident happened at Har-ki Pairi in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Dipping the minor in Ganga repeatedly led to his death.
A couple hailing from Delhi arrived at Har Ki Pauri with the child yesterday. The boy’s aunt also accompanied them. The boy died while dipping him in Ganga after ignoring his loud cries. When they realized that the child has lost his life, those around them started blaming the parents. On hearing this, the mother sitting next to the body said, 'My son will get up, that's for sure'. The footage was captured by someone who was there and is now circulating on social media.
The police reached the spot and admitted the boy to the nearby district hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. The parents said the child suffering from leukemia had been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for treatment and as his condition worsened, the hospital lost hope. The parents told city police superintendent Swatanthra Kumar Singh that they reached Haridwar after this and decided to dip the child in Ganga. Singh said that a case has been registered and investigation has been started.
