NAGERCOIL: A youth who went to watch a movie with his friends drowned in the sea. The deceased has been identified as Nikhil (24), a native of Pettah and an employee of Thycaud Co-operative Society. He drowned at Lemur Beach in Ganapathipuram of Kanyakumari district.

Nikhil left home with five friends to watch a movie on Friday, Republic Day. After watching the film from Thiruvananthapuram, the group went to Lemur beach in Kanyakumari without informing their families. They were swept away by the strong current soon after they entered the sea. Locals rescued Nikhil's friends and took them to hospital. However, Nikhil could not be saved. The body was found at 6 pm on Saturday, the second day, during the search conducted by the Kulachal Marine Police. The friends who were admitted to the hospital survived. Nikhil's body has been shifted to Asaripallam Medical College Mortuary in Nagercoil for post-mortem.
