KASARGOD: Action has been taken against policemen in connection with the death of a student in an accident. The court registered a case against the cops over the death of Farhaz (17), a native of Kannur, who succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment after the car in which he was travelling overturned while trying to escape from the police. Action was taken against sub inspector S R Rajith of Kumbala Police Station and CPOs Deepu and P Renjith.
Kasaragod Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court directed to file a case against the policemen based on the complaint of Farhaz’ mother. Three cops were earlier transferred. The court has registered a murder case. The court have issued summons to the police asking them to appear on February 19.
The family alleged that a chase by the police led to the accident leading to the death of the student and filed a complaint with the chief minister. The police explained that the officers were transferred as part of the investigation. The student's mother had also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission.
The accident happened when he was trying to avoid the police while traveling with his friends. Farhaz was a Plus Two student of Angadimogaru Govt Higher Secondary School. Farhaz sustained serious injuries in the accident.
The family alleged that the accident happened after the police chased the car for five kilometers from Angadimogar to Kattathadukka. There was a big protest in the incident. Meantime, the police said the accident happened due to the rash driving of the students.
