KATTAKKADA: A woman was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment and a fine for sexually assaulting a school girl after forcing her to drink alcohol. The convict Sandhya (31) will have to serve 13 years rigorous imprisonment and have to pay fine of Rs 50,000. Failing to pay the fine, she has to undergo an additional 10 months of rigorous imprisonment.

The said incident took place on October 28, 2016. The girl, who was studying in a school in Thiruvananthapuram, was made to believe that she would be given money to make a short film and subsequently took her in an auto along with his friends to her home in Aruvikuzhi near Kattakkada. After that, the convict kicked out the girl's friends and forced her to drink alcohol and after which she was sexually assaulted. The incident came to light when the friends who saw this made noise and gathered the locals.

A team consisting of D Bijukumar, who was Kattakkada sub-inspector, and DySP K Anilkumar completed the investigation and submitted the charge sheet. 25 witnesses were examined from the prosecution side and 26 documents and ten pieces of evidence were produced. Special Public Prosecutor DR Pramod appeared for the prosecution.
