THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The main suspect in the Youth Congress fake election ID card case, Kasaragod West Eleri Constituency Vice President Jayson surrendered at the Museum Police Station on Monday. Jayson made cards extensively using a mobile app called CR Card. The police recorded his arrest.
Jayson had confessed to the crime in the first phase of interrogation. He said the cards were made at the computer centre he owns. The seized laptops and mobile phones have been handed over for forensic examination. The test results are awaited and the police kept hope about getting more evidence in the meantime.
Jayson's assistant Rakesh was arrested by the police last month. Based on the tip-off received, Jayson was interrogated and he admitted to teaching Rakesh and others the technological essentials needed to build the application.
The Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court had earlier directed police to not arrest Jayson if he surrendered and cooperated with interrogation. Based on this, after questioning, Jayson was released on bail by the police. On Tuesday, the High Court will consider the anticipatory bail plea of Youth Congress leader Renju, another accused in the case.
