THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the CRPF providing security to the Governor, protesters will no longer be able to block the Governor on the way or hit his vehicle. If the protesters block the road or attack the Governor's vehicle the CRPF officials will try to immediately shift the Governor to safety without allowing him to get out of the car. The CRPF also has the power to use weapons if the protest escalates. CRPF has weapons ranging from electric batons to machine guns. However, it is unlikely to take a drastic step in a state like Kerala where the security threat is low.

CRPF will not allow the Governor to get out of his car in any case. According to their protocol, the VIP cannot park the car and get out of it. Even if the car is stopped, CRPF men with machine guns will surround it to protect the Governor. Although not in charge of law and order, the CRPF officials will chase away protesters with lathis if they approach the Governor with sticks and rocks. CRPF does not have the power to arrest or prosecute the protesters. The CRPF will undertake the task of escorting the Governor in his vehicle, office, travel, programs and residence and providing security around him. 50 trained persons will be appointed for this purpose. At least 15 people will be with the Governor in three shifts. The Bengaluru unit of CRPF, which specializes in VIP security, is in charge of the Governor's security.
