THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a shocking incident, a man absconded after hacking his wife's nose. Pothencode Kalloor native Sudha's nose was hacked by her husband Anilkumar.

Anilkumar, a former member of the Pothencode panchayat, went into hiding soon after the incident. Police have intensified the search for him. The incident took place at around 10.45 pm on Sunday.

According to the police, Anil Kumar and Sudha had been at loggerheads for some time. Upon learning that Sudha was going to attend the death of a relative near her house, Anilkumar attacked her at the nearby alley with a knife and hacked her nose. There are 12 stitches on Sudha's nose.

Sudha, who has been estranged from her husband for the past five years, lives with her three daughters by doing household work. Police said that Anilkumar hacked Sudha's nose while trying to cut her neck with the knife. Sudha sustained injuries on her finger as well. She is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. A case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused.
