KOLLAM: Engineering student met a tragic end when she was hit by a KSRTC bus while riding on a scooter with her father. The dead student has been identified as Gopika (20), a second-year electronics and communication engineering student of TKM Engineering College, daughter of Dileep, a resident of Thrikadavur Mathil.
The accident took place in front of the old post office near Kollam railway station around 8 am. Gopika was going to Kollam railway station with her father Dileep to go to Thiruvananthapuram CET with her classmates to do a project. Dileep was driving the scooter. When the scooter swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming cyclist while coming down from the Chinnakada railway over bridge, the fast passenger bus that was tailing them hit the scooter. The front wheel of the bus ran over Gopika's head as she fell on the road. Gopika died instantly.
Dileep escaped with injuries as he fell on the left side of the road. After the post-mortem, Gopika's body was kept for public viewing at TKM Engineering College. She was cremated at home in the evening. Dileep, who was an expatriate, is running a Chitti after coming back to the country. Gopi's mother is Sini. Sister: Devika. Brother-in-law: Anil Krishnalal.
