ALLEPPEY: SDPI state secretary Mannancheri resident KS Shan's murder case, which led to Ranjith Srinivasan's murder, has not been tried even after two years. While the convicts in the Ranjith murder case were awarded the death sentence, the accused in the Shan murder case are out on bail.
SDPI leader KS Shan was killed on the night of December 18, 2021. On the morning of the 19th, BJP leader Ranjith Srinivas was also killed. Although the accused have been nabbed in both these cases, the first incident, the Shan murder case, is dragging on. Two years have passed since the charge sheet was filed. PP Harris, a native of Thrissur and a prominent lawyer, was appointed as the special prosecutor a few days ago after widespread complaints were raised about the handling of the case. In the Shan murder case, 11 BJP-RSS workers Rajendra Prasad from Mannancheri, Vishnu from Avalukkunnu, Abhimanyu from Kattur, Sanand from Ponnad, Atul from Aryad North, Dhanish from Komalapuram, Sriraj from Mannancheri, Pranav from Ponnad, Srinath from Klapana, Kollam, Murukesan from Kokkamangalam and Ratheesh from Kattur are accused. Srinath and Murukesan were arrested after the charge sheet was filed.
The court granted bail to the accused due to the delay in filing the charge sheet, appointing a special prosecutor and trial proceedings. When the Alappuzha Sessions Court is hearing the case on the 2nd of next month, the accused have filed an application in the court demanding the rejection of the charge sheet submitted by the Crime Branch DySP. The defence contends that the Alappuzha District Crime Branch DySP has no authority to submit the charge sheet.
A law graduate, an active SDPI worker and a candidate for the Alappuzha assembly constituency, Shan was on his way home on his bike when the gang hacked him down. He was admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam in critical condition but died at midnight.
Biased approach says SDPI
SDPI State President Muvattupuzha Ashraf Maulavi has accused the Left government and the Home Department of showing partiality in the Alappuzha double murder cases. The policies of the RSS are being implemented by the central and state governments. In Adv Ranjith Srinivasan's murder case, the administration, police and prosecution took a biased approach.
The accused were granted bail in the Adv KS Shan murder case, The accused in the Ranjit murder case, who were denied bail, were sentenced to death. The Home Department and the government should clarify the reason for the bias in the murder case. Ashraf Moulavi demanded an inquiry into the government's delay in appointing a special prosecutor in the Shan murder case and the leaders including the BJP district president being allowed a seat in the courtroom on the day the accused were found guilty in the Ranjit murder case. What was the government's response to the explosion in Kalamassery in which eight people were killed? The attack was on the argument that those offering prayers are traitors. The conspiracy is yet to be investigated. It is the government's way of protecting the interest of the RSS. Ashraf Maulavi also stated that he will approach the Supreme Court in the Shan murder case.
