It is rumoured that Kochu TV, the popular entertainment channel for kids will stop its telecast in April of this year. Kochu TV was part of the Chennai-based private television conglomerate Sun Television Network.
From October 16, 2011, Kochu TV became fully operational. Sun Network later launched Chutti TV in Tamil and Kushi TV in Telugu which rose to more popularity and rating than its Malayalam version.
In a photo which is now going viral on social media, it says that the Surya production which has hitherto had rights for the programme is no longer interested in backing the channel and is planning to opt out. Meanwhile, it also mentions the plummeting TRP rating of the channel which has forced the officials to come to this hard decision.
On Wednesday, social media erupted in disbelief, with many reminiscing the good old days while paying adieu to the channel. Others went back years to ponder over how they used to binge-watch ‘Jackie Chan’ and ‘Stuart Little’, the marquee shows telecasted on the channel.
However, the channel officials played down the rumours and dismissed them saying that the channel would continue operations without any hassle. Albeit this clarification, social media is rife with news about Kochu TV bidding adieu after 13 years of creating memories. More details are expected in the coming days.
