KARACHI: Former Pakistani Prime Minister and PTI leader Imran Khan, with his wife Bushra Bibi received a 14-year prison sentence in the 'Toshakhana scam' case for profiting from diverted gifts during his prime ministership. The special court ruled they can't hold official positions for 10 years and imposed a 150 crore PKR fine. Bushra surrendered to Adiala jail after the verdict, marking Imran's second consecutive day of imprisonment.
He was sentenced to 10 years on Tuesday for the public document case. Both verdicts will be appealed in the High Court, and Imran has been in Adilabad Jail since last August. Convictions are scheduled for February 8, and he's barred from contesting elections.
Toshakhana: The department storing gifts for Pakistani rulers, allegedly used by Imran to acquire items at low prices, selling them for crores in profit while evading taxes. Imran and Bushra obtained a Rs 157 crore jewelry set from the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, selling it for Rs 90 lakhs.
Initially sentenced to three years on August 5 in the Toshakhana case, the Islamabad High Court canceled it on August 29. Imran stayed in jail due to other corruption cases.
