KOCHI: In the High Court, the DGP said that the reason for the bad behavior of the policemen was mental stress. The court held that mental stress is not a license to misbehave and street workers also have mental stress. The High Court directed the DGP that there should be no need to issue a circular to regulate the conduct.
In the case of misbehavior of a police officer at Alathur station in Palakkad, the harsh remarks came from the side of the court while considering the case taken voluntarily by the High Court. The DGP who appeared online had submitted a circular issued to control the misbehavior of the policemen. Those who work on the streets also have mental pressure. The High Court said that there should not be a situation to issue a circular to control the behavior.
More than 10 circulars have been issued regarding misbehaviour, but the fact that the circulars have to be issued again and again is proof that none of these circulars are being taken seriously by the police, the court said.
The DGP informed that a meeting of the police officers will be called the next day and the circular will be discussed in detail. Justice Devan Ramachandran directed the DGP to inform within a month how he intends to implement the new circular.
