NEW DELHI: Supreme Court will hear the plea of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the land scam case, on Friday. Soren was arrested by the ED after eight hours of interrogation. Hemant Soren was arrested after he met the governor along with ED officials and tendered his resignation.

Hemant Soren had approached the High Court after his arrest on Wednesday night. Kapil Sibal brought the matter to the attention of the Supreme Court while the case was being heard by the High Court today. The Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition on Friday after Kapil Sibal said that this case cannot be considered in the High Court and is of urgent importance.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta objected to the Supreme Court considering Soren's petition. Mehta pointed out that the matter is in the High Court. However, Sibal asked that it was a serious matter and how a chief minister could be arrested like this. Following this, the bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud agreed to hear the case on Friday.

At the same time, Champai Soren's move to shift the JMM-Congress MLAs to Hyderabad to prevent the BJP from taking them to their side has also backfired.

Both flights from Birsa Munda airport in Ranchi were cancelled. With this, the MLAs who boarded the plane deboarded. Officials said the flights were cancelled due to bad weather.

Governor CP Radhakrishnan has yet to invite Champai Soren, who was proposed by the JMM to replace Hemand as Chief Minister, to form the government. JMM alleges that the Governor is giving time to the BJP to carry out a sabotage. JMM-Congress MLAs were decided to be shifted to Hyderabad to prevent BJP's sabotage attempt in the state.
