PALODE: Two persons were caught by the Forest Vigilance and Intelligence Squad while trying to sell a sculpture made of ivory in Paruthipara Panavila. Two persons created a traffic jam, escaped the eyes of the squad and ran away with handcuffs.
Mohanan (57) of Pudhuvila House, Valapillashala and Ashwin (23) were arrested. A Tata Altroz car and a Royal Enfield bike used to smuggle ivory were seized.
The first and second accused are Sarath Kumar of Lalitha Bhavan, Mavuvila, Melthonnaikkal, and Johnny of Shyamavila House, Pallimuk, Peyad. They caused a traffic jam and escaped with handcuffs. A case has been registered after the deputy range officer filed a complaint with Mannantala police.
The sculpture was built on a single horn. The range officer was not ready to explain how much the ones who were involved tried to sell it for, where they got it from and for whom they brought it. It has been alleged that the Palode range officer is trying to cover up the incident. The arrested persons were produced in the forest department court at night.
