KOCHI: A transgender man, who underwent sex reassignment surgery, recently made history by giving birth to a baby after undergoing fertility preservation treatment. This groundbreaking procedure, performed at Renai Medicity Annex in Kozhikode marks a significant milestone in reproductive health.
In 2021, the transgender individual approached Renai Medicity for fertility preservation before undergoing sex reassignment surgery. The process involved extracting eggs, similar to IVF treatment which were then combined with sperm from the ART Bank in Kottayam. After fertilization, the embryos were frozen.
Following hormone treatments and gender reassignment surgeries, the frozen embryo was successfully implanted into the uterus of the legally married transgender man's partner. The result was the birth of a healthy baby boy weighing 2.8kg in December 2023, a remarkable achievement in assisted reproductive technology.
Managed by Dr. Jisha at Renai Medicity, this success offers hope and guidance to the transgender community aspiring to have biological children. Renai Medicity's Managing Director, Krishnadas Polakulam, expressed optimism about the impact of this achievement on the broader transgender community.
