THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said that attempts are being made to convert the country from a secular democratic republic to a religious state.
The Chief Minister also stated that there will be no change in the position announced earlier that the Citizenship Amendment Act will not be implemented in the state. He was speaking at the Desabhimani Sahitya Award function. "Babri Masjid was vandalized by Hindutva communalists. There are attempts by the administrative leadership to see if it is possible to raise a communal political storm again by making it the center," he said.
"Again we are hearing the announcement that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be implemented. The Citizenship Amendment Act only leads to the expulsion of a section of the civil society. The LDF government had earlier announced that it would not be implemented in Kerala. That has not changed," he added.
"History is full of examples of the disastrous results that can result from the combination of power and priesthood. Efforts are being made to lead the country to that primitive time," CM Vijayan said.
