KANJANI (THRISSUR): Disheartened by the action of a private bank to foreclose the house due to non-payment of a loan in his father's name, a man committed suicide. The deceased Vishnu (26), son of Vinayan, residing in Chemban Veedu in Manaloor Panchayat was found hanging in the bedroom of the house at 7 am yesterday.
The bank officials had asked him to vacate the house yesterday. As part of this, Vishnu was there with his family members to move things to a relative's house. In the meantime, he entered his bedroom and committed suicide. Vishnu was found hanging by his father Vinayan who opened the door to move things. Vishnu, who did fabrication works, is single. The police said that the reason for suicide was depression over non-repayment of the loan.
In 2010, Vinayan took a loan of Rs 8 lakhs from a private bank to build a house. Rs 8,70,000 was repaid in various installments. After 2016, the repayment was stopped due to financial problems. The bank had asked him to vacate the house after arrears rose to Rs.6 lakh.
The family members allege that there was a threat from the bank demanding payment and was not granted any relaxation despite requests. According to the police, Vinayan went to the bank last day and agreed to pay the dues.
However, the bank officials said that time was allowed and extended several times for loan repayment. The dead body was cremated in Anakkad crematorium. Mother: Omana. Brother: Vinil.
