BENGALURU: The post-mortem process of the wild elephant that shook Mananthavadi has been completed. The report says that the elephant's heart and lungs stopped together. There is an old wound on the left thigh. The report also states that the pus on the leg has spread to other parts of the body. In the preliminary report of the Karnataka Forest Department, it was pointed out that the death of Thanneer Kompan was due to a heart attack.
There was a wound on the elephant's penis. The preliminary report also mentioned that there was excessive fat in the veins. After getting fired with a tranquillizer shot, the elephant remained without enough water for 15 hours. The forest department officials had assessed that dehydration may have occurred due to this and the minimum level of electrolytes may have led to the heart attack.
Bandipur Field Director Ramesh Kumar IFS said that the elephant collapsed inside the vehicle and the elephant may have been traumatized by the sight of the man and loud noises. It was better to shift the elephant after letting it rest. He also criticized that the elephant should not have been shifted to Karnataka at night.
The Karnataka Principal Forest Conservator confirmed that Thanneer Kompan died at Ramapura Elephant Camp in Bandipur this morning. The elephant was fired with a tranquillizer twice in 20 days. The forest department had earlier informed that the elephant was completely healthy, but the authorities released the information that the elephant died unexpectedly.
A wild elephant named Thanneer Kompan, who had been in the Mananthavadi town of Wayanad since yesterday morning, was fired with a tranquillizer and caught late at night.
