THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the modernization of 100 food streets, four places in Kerala have been selected in the first phase.

The first phase will be implemented in Thiruvananthapuram's Shankhumugam, Munnar in Idukki, Kasthurba Nagar in Ernakulam and Kozhikode Beach. An administrative sanction of Rs.1 crore each was granted. Central and state funds are spent on this project. The objective is to ensure food safety and hygiene. Minister Veena George said that the currently functioning food streets will be improved through the project. The Minister stated that the project will be beneficial for the food tourism sector as well. It is implemented under the supervision of the Food Safety Department with the cooperation of the district administration and local bodies.

Nirmithi Kendra is tasked with the renovation of Shankhumugam Food Street. In Ernakulam, Kasthurba Nagar will be renovated with the cooperation of GCDA, Munnar with the cooperation of Panchayat and in Kozhikode Beach with the cooperation of Corporation.
