BENGALURU: The forest department said many pellet marks were seen on the body of Thanneer Komban, captured from Mananthavady after being tranquilized. It is believed that it may have been caused when reached agricultural fields or residential area.
Meantime, the forest departments of Kerala and Karnataka clarified that they had communicated about the rogue tusker. Kerala spotted the elephant at Tholpetty forests. After seeing the radio caller, the ID was found and started tracking. The signal was received from the radio caller at an interval of four to five hours. The forest department said the delay in receiving the signal hindered the chase of the elephant.
The forest department said they will examine whether there has been a failure on the procedures followed. A five-member expert committee has been entrusted to analyze the Thanneer Komban mission. Eastern Circle chief conservator Vijayanand is the head. The report is to be submitted within one month.
The post-mortem report of Thanneer Komban was released yesterday. Reports said the functioning of the elephant's heart and lungs stopped together. There was an old wound on the left thigh of its leg. The report also mentioned that the pus on the leg had spread to other parts of the body. In the preliminary report of the Karnataka Forest Department, it was pointed out that its death was due to a heart attack.
