THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Higher Education Minister R Bindu strongly criticized NIT Calicut professor for adulating Nathuram Godse on social media, especially on Martyrs' Day. Shailaja Andavan, a professor of mechanical engineering at NIT was caught in the fix as the minister termed her response as insulting and ungrateful.
Minister shared apprehension about these instances of professors praising historical wrongs to badly affect the younger generation of the country.
Kunnamangalam police had registered a case against Shailaja Andavan for her distasteful Facebook comment. A case was registered on the complaint of SFI. Shailaja’s comment came in a post shared by advocate Krishnaraj on January 30, where she quoted in the comment section about the valiance of Godse and said she was indeed proud of MK Gandhi’s assassinator.
However, when asked for an explanation, Shailaja brushed aside the controversy saying it was a petulant remark never intended to cause controversy.
On the other hand, the minister also responded to the issue of Malayali students migrating to foreign countries for higher studies. Minister R Bindu said it was no big deal if Malayali students travel aboard in the hope of securing a brighter future.
