THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Music director and lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi told Kerala Kaumudi that he would not allow his lyrics to be used for the academy headed by Satchidanandan. It is the people who are with me, not the Academy or the awards committee. So I will compose music for my lyrics, sing it and put it on YouTube. If they had told me in advance that the final decision would be made by the committee and not them, I would not have written.
Satchidanandan is taking revenge. An insult is an insult. It's not about compromise. Satchidanandan said that my lyrics were cliché and members of the committee, including M Leelavati, did not like my lyrics. Leelavati said that she was not shown the song.
When I wrote the song and sent it, I got a message from Abubaker saying 'I am not satisfied'. I told him to spare me right then and there. Satchidanand's message came again. He said, 'You can write.' Abubakar said that only the first lines should be changed. He also said that the second part is beautiful. I rewrote the first stanza. After that a single word 'thank you' came as a message from Satchidanandan. Anyone who knows Malayalam can understand from this that the lyrics have been accepted. It was only when I saw the advertisement that Sahitya Akademi was inviting Kerala Ganam from poets that I realized that my song had been rejected. Trap was expected because Satchidanandan was the president. Still, I didn't respond. I felt that the people should know about the actions of the academy when I came to know about the tragedy at Balachandran Chullikad- said Sreekumaran Thambi.
