PANAJI: Gobi Manchurian, a popular fusion dish, is the king of vegetarian dishes. Many also consider it as a substitute for chicken dishes. However, in a recent development, Gobi Manchurian has been banned in Mapusa City in Goa. The Mapusa Municipal Council banned the dish after a study found that the synthetic colour used in the preparation of Manchurian causes health issues such as cancer.
This is not the first time that Gobi Manchurian has been banned in the state of Goa. In 2022, the sale of Gobi Manchurian and Chilli Gobi was banned following food poisoning during the Vasco Saptah Fair. The Food Department also banned more than 10 stalls from selling the dishes.
