THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Under stringent supervision and heightened vigilance, measures are being implemented to curb cheating in competitive exams. Despite the prevalence of impersonation and fraudulent activities, leniency towards offenders has perpetuated such misconduct.

In addition to disqualification from exams, stricter penalties including criminal charges are being proposed to deter offenders. However, the influence and connections of the accused often shield them from accountability.

Recently, an investigation revealed fraudulent practices in the rank list of KAP 4th Battalion Constable Kasaragod. Notably, SFI leader Shivaranjith secured the first rank raising suspicions. This revelation emerged during an inquiry into a stabbing incident at University College involving the accused.

Further highlighting the issue, individuals Sunil (26) and Sumit (25) from Haryana's Hazar district were apprehended for using mobile phones with Bluetooth during the Technician (Electrician Grade B) examination of VSSC. The investigation prompted by a tip-off received by the PSC uncovered instances of impersonation and irregularities.

The investigation also unveiled irregularities in several other exams conducted by the PSC, including the SI examination, two LDCs and HSA.

Efforts to address these challenges intensified with the introduction of the Public Examination Bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill proposes hefty fines and imprisonment of up to 10 years to deter irregularities such as impersonation and tampering with question papers and rank lists.
