THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The brothers, accused in the case of impersonation during the PSC examination, have surrendered in court. Akhiljit and his brother Amaljit, natives of Nemom, surrendered in the court. The court remanded both of them. Poojapura police will file a custody application to release them for questioning.
The police suspect that it was Akhiljit who impersonated his brother, the main accused Amaljit. The fact that both of them went into hiding made the police suspicious.
The impersonation attempt took place during the PSC examination at Poojappura Chinnamma Memorial Girls High School on Wednesday. The candidate ran away from the examination hall during the University Last Grade Servants examination which started at 7:45 am.
The candidate in room number 6 ran out with the hall ticket when an officer came to the classes with a biometric verification machine. Only candidates who scored more than 55.44 marks in the preliminary examination were given a chance to appear in the second stage examination. It is concluded that there is no need for Amaljit, who has secured high marks, to ask someone else to appear for the main exam. It is being investigated whether he passed the preliminary examination also through impersonation.
The police had received the CCTV footage of a man jumping over the wall of the school and escaping on a bike along with another person. The police had found that this bike belonged to Amaljit.
