MANANTHAVADY: Forest department with big preparations to tranquilize and capture the wild elephant that killed a farmer in Wayanad. The order is to capture the elephant and transfer it to Muthanga. It is reported that two Kumki elephants have reached the location. However, at present the elephant is not in an area where the tranquilizer dart can be fired. The elephant standing on top of a mountain can only be shot if it is brought down. The forest department is preparing for that.
Ajeesh, a farmer and a driver, was stomped to death by a wild elephant in his backyard at 7:30 this morning. On seeing the elephant, Ajeesh ran to a nearby house, but the elephant came after him and stomped him to death. The occupants of the house escaped unhurt. The forest department ordered the elephant to be tranquilized after the locals protested with the dead body of the farmer.
At the same time, it has been decided to pay 10 lakh rupees as compensation to the family of Ajeesh. It was also decided in the meeting led by the district collector to give permanent job to Ajeesh's wife. The compensation will be handed over to Ajeesh's family on Monday. Forest Minister AK Saseendran announced that the government will bear the higher education expenses of Ajeesh's children. Favorable consideration will be given at the government level in the case of debt waiver of the family.
