In 2017, when three people, including Iyer, were found guilty in the case, he only responded by saying, "My mistake, my mistake, my big mistake". The CBI had approached the Supreme Court against the acquittal of Pinarayi Vijayan and others in the case. Three convicts, including Iyer, joined the case, demanding that their punishment be commuted, as the other accused in the case were acquitted. Both petitions are currently pending before the Supreme Court. Supreme Court has adjourned the case 38 times.
