NEW DELHI: The Congress leadership has fielded senior leader Kamal Nath for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. Sajjan Singh Verma, who was suggested by Kamal Nath was also not given a seat by the party. Ashok Singh has been given a seat here.
Rumours are also strong that Kamal Nath, who is standing with the leadership after being removed from the post of PCC president will go to the BJP. After the defeat in Madhya Pradesh, the relationship between Sonia Gandhi's confidant Kamal Nath and Congress deteriorated. There were also reports that the BJP had offered Rajya Sabha seat to Kamal Nath. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan who recently left the party and joined the BJP was accepted by the BJP by giving him a Rajya Sabha seat. Congress gave seat to Ajay Maken in Karnataka. Seats were also given to Syed Naser Hussain and GC Chandrasekhar.
Former Union Minister Renuka Chaudhary and Anil Kumar Yadav will enter the Rajya Sabha in Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana which recently took power. Meanwhile, the BJP has retained Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnav and L Murugan in its Rajya Sabha seat selection. The move is to bring Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to the House with the support of Biju Janata Dal by giving a seat from Odisha. Murugan has been given the seat from Madhya Pradesh.
