KOLLAM: A cobra, which was injured with its intestines coming out after a car ran over it, was operated on at the district veterinary centre. Even though the cobra was seriously injured, the locals could not take it away. Finally, the snake was taken away after informing the Special Protection Unit.
The snake got run over by a car on the road near Karicode TKM College of Engineering. The forest team led by Assistant Conservator Anwar arrived and shifted the cobra to a special cage. The cobra was brought to the district veterinary centre with its entrails exposed.
Dr. Sajay Kumar, Dr. S. Kiran Babu and Ajith Murali performed the surgery under the leadership of Kollam District Veterinary Hospital Dr. D. Shine Kumar. Once the wound heals, the cobra will be released into the Kulathupuzha forest.
The cobra was shifted to the surgical ward and drugs were given to stop the bleeding after anaesthesia was administered. After an hour-long surgery, the intestine was put back in place and the wounds were sutured. Antibiotics were also given. The plan is to provide five more days of follow-up treatment.
