THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Speaker denied the adjournment motion notice moved by the opposition, alleging that no further action was being taken even after a case was filed against the chief minister's gunman and security officer for thrashing youth congress workers. Opposition members Shafi Parambil, M Shamsuddin, Mons Joseph, Anoop Jacob, Mani C Kappan and K K Rema gave the notices. The speaker replied that it was not a recent incident and that the case is under the consideration of the court.
Following that, the opposition trooped to the well of the house but the Speaker did not relent. The opposition later walked out of the house. When the Nava Kerala Sadas reached Alappuzha, the youth congress state secretary Ajay Jewell Kuriakose and KSU district president A D Thomas were beaten up for showing black flags at the bus carrying the chief minister and others by the gunman Anil and escort policeman Sandeep, who were behind the bus. The video of the attack had gone viral. As per the court order, the police had registered a case and asked them to appear for questioning, but both did not appear. Apart from Anil Kumar and Sandeep, three other known officers are accused in the case.
Meantime, Finance Minister K N Balagopal reached Delhi to hold discussions with the Center regarding the borrowing limit as directed by the Supreme Court. The minister said that he is participating in the discussion with great hope. The absence of Nirmala Sitharaman in the discussion does not matter. The discussion is with responsible people. The minister added that the intervention of the court has given priority to federalism. The discussion will be held at 4 pm today.
Centre’s four-member committee will hold the discussion. After the Supreme Court's directive that the Center and Kerala should first hold talks on the petition filed by the state government regarding the borrowing limit, Kerala formed the committee for the discussion. Apart from the finance minister, chief principal secretary to the chief minister K M Abraham, principal secretary (finance) Rabindra Kumar Agarwal, advocate general K Gopalakrishna Kurup is in the panel.
