THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Soon, taking the 'H-test' will not be enough to get a car driving license in Kerala. You can get a license only if you do the descent, ascent, reverse and parking in a good manner. New reforms are likely to come into effect from May.

Facilities should be provided on the ground not only for the H-test but also for parallel parking and angular parking. Uncertainty continues as to whether this should be provided by the government or the driving schools.

A meeting of driving school owners was called last day regarding the new reform in the driving test. Although instructions were given to set up inspection centers, some did not agree. Although H can be taken in the current way, facilities need to be developed for parking and other tests. Driving school owners say that this will cost them up to Rs 5 lakhs.

Currently, there are 86 driving test centres in the state, but only ten of them are owned by the Motor Vehicles Department. Public spaces are used in other places and it will be difficult to create new facilities here new places will have to be found.
