KOTTAYAM: Suryan and Mahadevan, law students from Alappuzha studying in Ettumanur have launched a successful initiative to provide fresh fish to locals. With the help of a WhatsApp group named 'Safe to Eat,' the duo, along with friends have expanded their network to include natives of Ratnagiri and Ettumanur.
Every evening, fresh fish sourced from Alappuzha is delivered to Ettumanur, thanks to a friend's assistance who parcels it in iced thermocol boxes. The initiative has garnered significant attention with the group growing from ten to fifty members in just two days.
Orders can be placed between 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, with delivery and payment arrangements made after class at 3:30 pm. Popular choices include sardines, mackerel, squid and prawns with a standing order of 15 kg received within two days of the initiative's launch.
Suryan expressed confidence in the initiative's success, noting plans to expand distribution and potentially open a fish stall, with the possibility of hiring additional staff.
