KOCHI: In the financial year of 2022-23, CPM received most donations from their nemesis Kitex Group. The company founded by Sabu M Jacob have been at loggerheads with CPM over political disputes. Minding their animosity, it evokes surprise learning how Kitex topped the list in contributing money towards CPM.

The news was unveiled when CPM submitted the report to the Election Commission covering details of those who donated to the party. Kitex group paid Rs 30 lakh to CPM through cheque. The company is second in the list of contributors at the national level. The CITU Karnataka State Committee topped the list with a donation of Rs 56.8 lakh to CPM.

Meanwhile, Kitex group chairman Sabu M Jacob was nonchalant in his response as he said the donation was a ‘common courtesy’.

“ Kitex donated not because we fear them, but it is a common generosity and we have been doing this for a long.” Sabu M Jacob said that the money was donated during the Thrikakkara by-election.

But CPM State Secretary M V Govindan responded that he did not know anything about the incident. CPM received most donations from business honchos, builders and gold merchants in Kerala.
