MANANTHAVADY: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has temporarily suspended his Bharat Nyay Yatra, to return to the protest-hit Wayanad. The Congress leader will leave for Wayanad at 5 pm on Saturday.
Jairam Ramesh, head of the Congress media wing, informed about the decision. Considering the current turbulent situation in Wayanad, it was assessed that Rahul Gandhi’s presence would alleviate the tensions to some extent.
Currently, the Bharat Nyay Yatra has reached Varanasi. After Rahul's return, the journey will resume on Sunday only at 3 pm. After starting the padayatra in Varanasi on Saturday, Rahul conducted temple visits as part of his yatra.
Wayanad is boiling in protest against the government's incompetence to put a stop to the recurring human deaths due to wild animal attacks. The leaders of Wayanad had earlier informed Rahul Gandhi about the sentiments of the people in the district. It needs to be looked at how the people will respond to Rahul’s visit to his constituency during this hour of turmoil.
Earlier, people threw chairs and bottles at Congress MLA and leaders who visited the spot.
