WAYANAD: The funeral of forest department employee Paul, who was killed in a wild elephant attack on Friday, was held here at St. George's Church in Pulpally. There was a big conflict in Pulpally after Paul's death. After deciding on issues including compensation for the family, the residents of the area ended their protest. Even when the body was brought home, there was a huge protest.
A prohibitory order has been clamped in Pulpalli due to heavy protests by locals. As the protest escalated into violence, the district administration issued an order announcing a curfew in Pulpally for today and tomorrow. Paul's family will be given financial assistance of Rs 10 lakhs. ADM Devaki informed that the money would be handed over to the family today. The decision to hand over the entire amount was taken today following the protests of the locals. Initially, the move was to pay Rs 5 lakhs. The government will undertake Paul's daughter's education. It was also decided to give a temporary employment to his wife.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Kerala after suspending his Bharat Nyay Yatra, which entered Uttar Pradesh. Jairam Ramesh, head of the Congress media wing, informed about this. The trip is taking into account the need for Rahul Gandhi's presence there due to the current situation.
