Many children go abroad to study medicine due to the lack of medical seats in Kerala. Before the COVID-19 epidemic, it was possible to complete the studies without facing any major problems. Medical students who had to return from abroad also faced a crisis when studies were confined to their rooms during the Covid period. Although they were able to complete their studies online, they faced many hurdles for registration later. They had to go back to their colleges to complete the classroom studies they had lost during COVID-19.

The crisis was mainly faced by those who did online studies for more than two semesters. Many had to do three semesters of online study. Those who have completed such studies are then required to pass the Qualifying Examination for Foreign Medical Students. Provisional registration can be obtained only after passing this test. Those who had to study online for more than two semesters had to rely on their respective colleges to make up the semester shortfall. Only those who complete the course in this manner are allowed provisional registration here. Those who complete their medical graduation abroad will need an internship here. Internships can be applied for only with provisional registration. Students who have completed their studies abroad are in trouble as there are only a few days to apply for internships. People here have long been good at bothering students in the name of technicality.

In matters like this, it is not right for the authorities to be taking steps that create difficulties for the students instead of helping them as much as possible. Children go to foreign institutions to study because there is no opportunity here. We should sympathize with the students who come back completing their studies after suffering a lot. Children of Kerala are not the only ones who go abroad to study. It is heard that students in other states do not face any difficulty in temporary registration. The students who are facing the crisis are mainly those who are returning after studying in China.

The Covid era was a time when students across the world had to go through a tough phase of life. Especially the students in professional courses had to suffer a lot. Practical training is essential for students in fields like medicine and engineering where class studies are compulsory. Along with ensuring that, it is also essential to avoid procedures that hinder their internship. Many children from Kerala are studying in Chinese medical colleges. No matter where they study abroad, medical students are only allowed to practice once they pass certain qualifying exams. It is necessary in the medical field as well. It is recalled that when studies of Indian medical students who had to return from Ukraine halfway through their course due to the war, the centre intervened to fix the confusion about them continuing their studies. The state government can intervene in the registration difficulties here faced by medical students from China. Even if it is a matter of a few, it is the responsibility of the government to help the children when they face a problem.
