THODUPUZHA: With the heat of summer, electricity consumption in the state also hit a record in February. 92.468 million units of electricity were used yesterday. Largest February consumption in history. 10 million units more than the previous year. Out of this, 75.4852 million units were imported. Domestic production is 16.9827 million units. Out of this, 4.325 million units were produced in Moolamattam.
Daily consumption averaged 86 million units till the end of last month but is now above 90 million units per day. The consumption spikes at 10 pm and reaches close to 4650 MW and tapers off after 4.30 am. The use of air-conditioners, coolers and fans is what led to record electricity consumption.
Last April 19 saw the largest electricity consumption in the state's history - 102.99 million units.

Generator not repaired
Generator No. 1, which was damaged on December 15 at Moolamattam Power Station, has not been repaired. The problem is that defective parts are yet to arrive from abroad. The information given by KSEB is that it will be repaired by the end of this month. At present five generators of 130 MW are operating.
60% water in dams
As the summer heats up and the power generation increases, the water level in the state's dams is also dropping rapidly. KSEB's reservoirs have only 60 percent water. There are 2468.511 million units of water left in all the dams to generate electricity. The state's largest hydropower project, Idukki Dam, has a water level of 2359.52 feet which is 54 percent of its storage capacity. Over six percent of the water in all the dams has gone down in a month.
