NEW DELHI: Delhi Chalo agitation witnessed a resurgence of conflict as farmers' organizations resumed protests after rejecting central government proposals. Clashes between protestors and Haryana police resulted in tragedy as 23-year-old farmer Subhkaran Singh lost his life due to head injuries sustained during tear gas firing. While farmers' leaders accused the police of shooting Singh, Haryana police refuted the claims. Sixteen farmers were injured with two in critical condition prompting a two-day suspension of the agitation.

Police reported that protestors attacked with sticks and maces, leaving 12 officers seriously injured. Tear gas shells, deployed via drones, and alleged use of grenades intensified the confrontation at Shambhu and Khanauri borders on the Haryana-Punjab border.

Despite the unrest, thousands of farmers remain encamped at the border, with leaders scheduled to discuss the situation today. The Haryana Police denied allegations of abducting a farmer named Preet, injured during the clash and currently receiving treatment in Rotak, Haryana. Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar's death attributed to illness while on duty at the Tohana border, added to the tensions.

The deployment of hydraulic cranes and earthmoving machines prompted the Haryana Police to request intervention from the Punjab Police to prevent escalation.

In a bid to seek resolution, the central government extended an invitation for the fifth round of consensus talks, urging farmers' leaders to come prepared. However, farmers' organizations remained steadfast in their rejection of the government's proposal to limit support prices to select crops under specified conditions.
