THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the LDF is about to enter the Lok Sabha election campaign after deciding on its candidates, the UDF is also gearing up to start its campaign works officially. An understanding regarding the seats will be reached in the UDF coordination committee which will meet at 10 am in Ernakulam on the 25th.
The UDF meeting will be held on February 25 while Samaragni, the KPCC's protest march, is being held. A final understanding has to be reached regarding the seats of the Muslim League. At present, the RSP and Kerala Congress Joseph faction have announced their candidates and started campaigning after holding discussions with the UDF leadership.
Although the Congress national leadership directed to field sitting MPs in their respective constituencies, unexpected candidates are likely in some places. Currently, no one has submitted any proposal before the sub-committee on candidate selection. Only Mavelikkara MP Kodikunnil Suresh has put forward the demand to withdraw from the contest during the candidate selection meeting held once in Thrissur. It is up to the party's national leadership to make a decision on Kodikkunnil, who is a member of the Congress working committee.
KPCC president K Sudhakaran may also not contest in Kannur this time. Apart from this, the decision on the selection of candidates in Alappuzha has not been finalized. It is also not clear whether Rahul Gandhi will shift from Wayanad to any other constituency in other states. The party will take the final decision on the candidates after considering the probability of success and the communal equation.
