THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The human skeleton found at the Kariavattom University campus is suspected to be that of a Thalassery native. The suspicion surfaced after a driving license with a Thalassery address was recovered from the spot where the skeleton was found. As of now, the forensic department is examining the skeleton.

The skeleton was confirmed to be that of a male. A hat, tie and reading glasses were also found along with the skeleton. Police said the skeleton was of a man who committed suicide by hanging. It was after some gruelling effort that the police and the fire rescue personnel took out the skeleton from the old water tank which was 20 feet deep. Forensic experts also went inside the tank for examination.

On Wednesday, one college employee found the human skeleton inside an unused tank near an uninhabited premise of the campus. The skeleton was found through the manhole of the water tank when the campus staff came to clean the area. After being informed, the Kazhakkoottam police and fire rescue team inspected the spot. The skeleton was lying at a depth of 20 feet making it difficult for the fire personnel to go down the depth.

This morning, the forensic team, the fire brigade and the police reached the spot and started the process of removing the skeleton. The tank had remained closed for years so proper precautions had to be taken to prevent any hazardous situation.

The dog squad also reached the spot and conducted an investigation. Complaints in various police stations regarding missing people will be investigated. DNA testing will also be conducted.
